About Trim Star®

Trim Star® offers the unique partnership of an open web floor truss and a trimmable, wooden- I joist bringing the advantages of each to the relationship. With the ability to trim the truss on site it will eliminate the need for those time consuming custom floor trusses.

Trim Star® is manufactured in lengths from 4-28’ in 2’ increments and in depths of 11 7/8", 14", 16" & 24”. Trim Star® is constructed of 2x3 spruce for the chords in lengths of 4' to 24’ and the 26' and 28’ chords are 2x4. The webs are constructed of 2x3 yellow pine. In lengths of 14’ to 28' the chords have an MSR (machine stress rating) of 2150. The insert is a 1x Canadian spruce.

Features

  • Trimmable on site – Eliminates need for custom floor trusses – no waiting
  • Open Web System – Allows easy access for plumbing, electrical and A/C ducts
  • Lightweight – Trim Star® is 30% lighter than a conventional 2 X 4 floor truss. The 2 X 3 cord material is MSR (machine stress rated) for longer span trusses. This lumber is physically tested to design load values and mill graded to assure consistent quality.
  • Stiffness and Silence – Trim Star’s ® 2 ½ wide nailing surface is wider that residential I-joists and conventional framing. More nailing and gluing surface allows the truss and subfloor to act as a composite member. Gluing and nailing stiffens floors resulting in minimal squeaking. Trim Star ® exceeds industry standards with L/480 deflection.

Quality

Trim Star ® components are reviewed and controlled by various independent grading agencies.

  • SPIB (Southern Pine Inspection Bureau) specifies the design values for the SYP web members.
  • NGLA (National Lumber Grading Association) Standards apply to the 2 X 3 and 2 X 4 cord material
  • TPI (Timber Products Inspection) in-plant inspection services assure product quality
  • ANSI/TPI-2002 specification s apply to the connector plate design values.
